Welcome to Projêt Fox, devoted foremostly to the history of hereditary succession in France, as provided for in both customary and codified law, and as practiced over the centuries from the middle ages to the present.

Finding the word "Fox" in a French title may be puzzling for anyone not well acquainted with the topography of the Haut Var region, where, between the towns of Barjols and Salernes one finds a village perché named Fox-Amphoux. It was there, in summertimes during the decade from 1974 to 1984, that much of the work on Projêt Fox took place.

This digital summary of Projêt Fox is divided into these categories:

1) History and purpose of the project.

2) The University of Iowa Archive.

3) Published articles & professional lectures.

4) Ruminations on various aspects of the project.

5) Bibliography.

In the development of the present website the author had the invaluable assistance of his longtime friend, Cynthia P. Gardiner.
